Q: Does the skin rejuvenation or hair removal process hurt?

A: Both of these processes feel like an elastic being 'flicked' on your skin. There is slight stinging while it is being done, but nothing after.

Q: What Is Photorejuvenation?

A: It is the process of using light on the skin's surface to effect changes beneath the surface of the skin. Blood vessels, brown pigment, hair follicles may be removed and wrinkles may be reduced with this treatment. Photorejuvenation is a procedure intended to rejuvenate the skin on the face, arms, legs, neck, and chest. It is performed in a series of treatments of intense pulsed light, or IPL.

Photofacial is perfect for treating:

Sun Damaged Skin

Red Spots and Facial Veins

Rosacea

Acne

Brown and Age Spots

Wrinkles and Fine Lines

Redness & Flushing

Q: How Does skin rejuvenation work?

A: Photorejuvenation is performed with a series on Intense Pulsed light treatments. The light penetrates the top layer of skin and acts upon the underlying layer of the dermis. The light energy seals small blood vessels, destroys melanin pigment, destroys hair follicles, and stimulates cells to produce new collagen which reduces wrinkles. Treatments are scheduled 3-4 weeks apart.

Q: What To Expect After a skin rejuvenation treatment?

A: Results should become especially noticeable after several treatments, as wrinkles, redness, and age spots fade away. Patients also enjoy a reduction in pore size, and an overall better skin tone and texture. There is virtually no downtime associated with photorejuvenation.

Some patients experience slight redness after their IPL treatment, usually lasting less than 24 hours.  Occasionally, age spots will darken first and then fade away in about a week.

Q: What are the side effects of photorejuvenation?

A: Photorejuvenation treatments are very safe.  Common side effects include: mild redness (which usually can be covered with make-up) and darkening of age spots (which can last up to a week before fading away).  Rare side effects include: burning, blistering, and extra pigmentation on the skin which usually resolve in a week.

Q: How long will the changes from photorejuvenation last?

A: After a series of 3-6 treatments, the improved appearance should last for 2-3 years with use of good home care products.

Q: What are the skin rejuvenation treatments like?

A: A Cold gel is applied to the area to be treated. A slight stinging sensation is felt. At first, the skin may be flushed but these effects will generally fade within 24 hours.  A topical anesthetic may also be applied 30 minutes prior to treatment to help reduce any mild discomfort if necessary.
